Assistant System Controller- Switching & Systems
1. JOB PURPOSE:
- Coordinate with the Control Room Engineer/System Controller and carry out instructions relating to the generation of electricity and steam.
- Monitor control equipment and all parameters associated with related plant equipment and services in a safe and efficient manner.
- At Jebel Ali site, support the supply of power to both the Jebel Ali site and third-party customers.
2. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Operate the plant as instructed to ensure electrical power is safely and efficiently generated and distributed in line with the daily operational plan, meeting the operating needs and network requirements of the Smelter Complex and third-party customers (as applicable).
- Observe Gas Turbines, HRSGs and Steam Turbines operating parameters and ensure maximum steam generation.
- Control and assist in the collection of accurate and reliable operational data to monitor performance against targets and ensure accurate invoicing to third-party customers. Perform routine operational calculations relating to efficiency and electrical fault levels for approval at a higher level.
- Initiate start-up and shutdown of various plant and equipment as instructed by the Control Room Engineer/System Controller.
- Monitor total system conditions at all times, including gas systems, steam systems, compressed air systems, fuel systems, etc.
- Report temperature alarms, vibration alarms and any other alarms relevant to plant operations.
- Observe fuel consumption, frequency, voltage and current to ensure proper power generation and smelter operation.
- Ensure operational routines are performed promptly.
- Communicate with Field Operators, the Control Room Engineer/System Controller and Supervisor regarding any plant abnormalities requiring corrective action.
- Train subordinates as required to meet departmental objectives.
- Raise work requests and store requests as required by the Control Room Engineer/System Controller, Supervisor or Shift Charge Engineer.
- Ensure plant operations do not create environmental incidents within the assigned area, reducing waste and maintaining legal compliance at all times.
- Participate in the Suggestion Scheme and occasionally verify suggestions submitted by others to support continuous improvement initiatives.
3. QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Diploma in Electrical, Mechanical or a related Engineering field.
Minimum Experience:
- 5 years of working experience in the Power or Manufacturing industry.
Skills:
- Proficiency in computer applications, with advanced knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Visual Basic programming.
