- JOB PURPOSE:
The Manager – Remelt Shift Operations oversees the Remelt Casthouse shift, ensuring safe, efficient, and cost-effective operations. This role manages daily activities, optimises scrap utilisation, maintains process flow, and ensures tooling availability to minimise downtime. The manager leads performance reviews, drives continuous improvement, and ensures products meet customer requirements and international standards (ISO 9001, ISO/TS 16949, ISO 14001, OHSAS 18001). Collaboration with the Process Engineer and adherence to operational excellence are key to success in this role.
- KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Day-to-Day Operations:
- Is overseeing the shift with respect of all-related responsibilities starting from the safe operational practises ensuring the availability of sufficient employees in the shift and if required organisers the replacement workforce, till the efficient production of high-quality products throughout the entire production process, from scrap reception till packing.
- Aligning with the planning team the casting schedule and follows the agreed schedule.
- Ensures that the required quality samples are taken in a timely manner and frequency to ensure excellent product quality.
- Monitors the physical and mental conditions of himself and all shift members to avoid heat stress and fatigue.
- Observes if shift members are trained, understand safe and efficient work practices and monitors if the same a followed and respected. If required, instantly corrects deviations but also re-enforces positive behaviours.
- Ensure that 5S is implemented, certified and maintained in the remelt casthouse including the scrap yard, sorting area and final products area.
Maintenance and Planning:
- Aligns with the maintenance team on preventive maintenance schedules.
- Points out critical issue with respect of equipment maintenance instantly to the maintenance team. Less critical topics will be added to the shift summary report and discussed and prioritized during the daily shift review meetings.
- Monitor the tooling condition and initiate tooling maintenance in accordance with the tool shop
Processes and Procedures:
- Actively participates in trials for new materials and supplies, and, based on the trial results makes his recommendations to the Process Manager and Remelt Casthouse Manager for further decisions.
- Manages and monitors the process of raising the PR’s, MMAF’s with the coordination of area Remelt Casthouse Manager, and continuous follow up with warehouse and purchasing department to ensure the on time delivery of procured items to end users.
- Ensures with the coordination of Remelt Casthouse Manager, that all department personals are fully trained, developed and adheres to all safety rules, policies and procedures so that they are competent in carrying out their duties, minimizing the risk of work place accidents and injuries.
Others:
- Within his possibilities and responsibilities ensure that departmental budgets of the Remelt Casthouse will not exceed the planned budget.
- Inform and update the Remelt Casthouse Manager or the Process Manager about all his shift related matters on daily basis.
- Improves the relationship within internal departments.
- Interfaces on a regular basis with the supply department, and the warehouse using the bi-weekly casting schedule to ensure adequate supply of raw materials, consumables, furnace tools and process gases are available in stock.
- Continuously interacts and follows up with key and major suppliers for the evaluation of new materials, supplies and organize trials to enhance process improvement and development.
- AUTHORITY/ DECISION MAKING:
- Advise senior management about the requirements of replacement of old tools and equipment or other maintenance needs.
- Overseeing all employees present at the shift from scrap reception till final product. In this function has full disciplinary power with respect of safety, efficiency, respectful behaviour among all employees, ethical behaviour and other management responsibilities.
- Authorised to stop the production process if any risk threatens personnel, equipment, or the environment.
- QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s Degree in relevant field of Engineering.
