JOB PURPOSE:
Provides functional expertise, leads and directs the development, planning, management and audit of the effective implementation of EGA’s Safety Management systems, strategic plans, policies and programs across EGA sites (locally & internationally) to ensure compliance to legislation and international standards to achieve EGA’s road to zero harm.

 

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Strategy Development and Implementation 
    Sets out EGA’s Safety and Governance strategy and framework based on EGA’s overall ESG & Sustainability strategy, purpose, bold aspirations, and values. 
    Directs the implementation of the functional strategy ensuring alignment to group strategy, EGA’s vision, mission, and corporate objectives.
    Ensures that functional strategy and related strategic plans are developed and implemented, which are aligned with the vision and mission of the organization.
    Ensures the provision of subject matter expertise for the assigned domain and provide counsel to EGA leadership on all related areas to facilitate the achievement of EGA’s strategy and functional strategies.
    Shares the approved strategy with local/legal authorities where appropriate to obtain feedback as part of continuous improvement.

Leadership
    Manages the effective achievement of functional objectives through effective leadership and by setting of individual objectives, managing performance, developing, and motivating team to maximise performance.
    Establishes SMART KPI’s for the departments to measure individual and department performance against company objectives and values.
    Leads the talent development initiatives for the assigned function, collaborating with discipline experts and thereby ensure the availability of talent to fit business requirements.
    Acts as a role model and drive adherence to organizational values and ethics by employees of the assigned function to ensure the establishment of a value driven culture within the organization.
    Oversees and manages the effective coordination with other departments and sections according to their requirements in order to facilitate the flow of information and ensure the provision of timely and accurate data and services.


Budgeting and Financial Performance 
    Oversees the consolidation and recommend the functional budget and monitors financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues, areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, and potential areas of cost reduction or performance improvement opportunities are capitalised upon.

Policies, Systems, Processes & Procedures
    Strategizes the creation of company - wide safety policies, processes and procedures and monitors the implementation and effectiveness of the same in safeguarding EGA and its employees, assets and information. 
    Enforces and implements corporate procedures and guidelines for the entire business and ensures continuous communication within and outside of ESG & Sustainability functions and across operations.
    Communicates internally relevant safety and governance related information in order to ensure that management remain updated on the different initiatives and changes.

Safety Governance
    Provides functional expertise and leads the development of a comprehensive governance framework for safety management across EGA, and oversees the implementation of policies, systems, processes, procedures and controls covering all areas of EGA safety operations to ensure that all relevant procedural/ legislative requirements are fulfilled.
    Provides functional expertise and counsels/guides EGA Management about the roles and responsibilities for what concerns safety aspects.
    Ensures, in accordance with EGA guidelines, the implementation, updating, review and auditing of the EGA safety systems.
    Monitors the effective implementation of appropriate Safety System procedures and provide for their updating in line with changes in Legislation and EGA directives.
    Plans, leads and co-ordinates all safety related projects to be implemented across all EGA sites as part of business improvement.
    Leads the conducting of safety meetings and inspections to ensure compliance, evaluate performance, identify corrective action, and implement follow up assessments.
    Plans, implements, and conducts safety and compliance audits.
    Plans, implements, manages, and maintains comprehensive safety programs at EGA.
    Provides site safety management with guidance on safety and confirm site fulfills local guidelines and regulations.

EGA Site Safety

    Leads and directs the day-to-day operations of all EGA’s sites to ensure that work processes are implemented as designed and comply with established policies, processes and procedures.
    Accountable to review and stop operations and activities that could harm employees.
    Directs the proactive identification of opportunities to minimize workplace injuries and accidents.
    Leads significant incident investigations and directs the preparation of reports and summarizing of investigation results.
    Reviews accident and incident reports.
    Manages the identification, planning and organizing of safety training courses to all levels within EGA.
    Reviews safety training and recommends revisions, improvements, and updates.
    Conducts safety inspections and audits to assess employee compliance with safety procedures.
    Directs the conducting of analysis of accident / incident statistics, identifying trends and suggesting improvement plans.
    Provides advice and support to Area Management on any safety related subjects.
International Safety
    Develop and implement comprehensive training programs that cover all aspects of international safety standards. Ensure that all employees, regardless of their location, receive regular and up-to-date training to enhance their understanding and compliance with safety procedures.
    Lead initiatives to raise awareness about safety protocols and best practices. This includes organizing workshops, seminars, and communication campaigns to keep safety at the forefront of all operations.
    Implement and maintain a standardized reporting system for safety incidents and compliance checks. Ensure that all safety-related data is accurately recorded, analysed, and reported in a consistent manner across all regions. This will facilitate the identification of trends, areas for improvement, and the sharing of best practices
    Regularly review and update safety procedures to align with international standards and regulatory requirements. Foster a culture of continuous improvement by encouraging feedback and suggestions from employees on safety practices.
    Monitor compliance with safety regulations and standards across all international operations. Conduct regular audits and inspections to ensure adherence to safety protocols and take corrective actions as necessary.
Stakeholder Management
    Develops and maintains effective business relationships with all relevant external/internal entities and all sections with the highest standards of business ethics, whilst promptly attending to all critical issues in-order to ensure the services required by the organisation are delivered in the most effective manner.    

Safety, Quality & Environment
    Ensures compliance to all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls across the section to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, and a responsible environmental attitude.

Change Management
    Leads the management of change through continuous improvement of functional systems, processes and practices considering global standards and changes in the business environment which demand proactive action plans.

Reporting
    Ensures that all functional reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet EGA requirements, policies, and quality standards.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
    Bachelor’s Degree in a relevant discipline such as safety management, HSSE.
    Professional certification/ Diploma in Safety Management.
    Lead Auditor

Minimum Experience:

12 years of safety experience in an industrial environment, including at least 4 years safety management level experience.
