Technician - Metallurgy
JOB PURPOSE:
-
To carry out metal cleanliness sampling, hydrogen measurement, sampling of finished products, data collection of casting parameters related to monitored casts, Vac & thermal analyser sampling, etc. for all products, to ensure they meet the prescribed standards as laid down in various casting operations procedures.
KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:
Safety
-
Actively participates in safety-related issues, task risk assessments, registers, and the suggestion scheme program.

Carries out 5S housekeeping, monthly 5S inspection, and safety inspections.
Quality
-
Carries out routine and non-routine metal cleanliness assessments using metallurgical measuring equipment during casting from liquid metal at all casting stations as per metallurgy services department requirements, and enters the results in the report.

Collects product samples for metallography studies to measure different metallurgical characteristics.

Uses mechanical equipment to prepare samples for macrostructure study and delivers samples to the main metallurgy lab for micro examination.

Carries out sample preparation for macro etching and metallurgical assessments as directed by senior department members.

Maintains metallurgical testing equipment clean and in good working condition.

Takes routine and non-routine samples for chemical composition analysis.

Maintains adequate stocks of consumables and spares for equipment used in metallographic and metal cleanliness activities.

Maintains metallographic and metal cleanliness sampling records to ensure samples and measurement data are easily retrievable.

Actively participates in the suggestion scheme program.

Carries out verification of test methods as per set frequency.

Understands and implements the requirements of ISO/IEC 17025 as per the latest revision.
QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:
Minimum Qualifications:
-
Twelfth (12th) grade high school certificate.
-
Successful completion of PEC technical training programme or a three (3) year Technical Diploma in Metallurgy or equivalent.
Minimum Experience:
-
Two (2) years of Assistant Technician experience, or a minimum of four (4) years of experience in casting operations or in a closely related continuous industrial process.
Skills:
-
Ability to influence internally to ensure safety standards.

Technical report writing skills in English.

Ability to liaise with operations to ensure that non-conforming material is investigated and dealt with according to relevant procedures.
