Technician - Process Control

JOB PURPOSE:

To carry out routine process monitoring, product inspection, metallurgical testing, and laboratory analysis to support casthouse operations. The role ensures accurate testing and reporting of raw materials, molten metal, and finished products, escalating deviations to the Senior Technician or Superintendent as required.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES:

EHS & Compliance

Follow all EHS and laboratory safety procedures, including proper handling of hazardous materials.

Maintain housekeeping standards (5S) in laboratory and process areas.

Comply with ISO/IEC 17025, ISO 9001, ISO 14001, and OHSAS standards.

Process Monitoring & Control

Monitor scrap sorting, furnace melting, metal treatment, and VDC casting operations to verify adherence to defined process parameters.

Record operating data and escalate deviations to the Senior Technician.

Assist during trial runs and process optimization projects.

Product Inspection & Quality Verification

Perform billet and T-bar visual inspections, ultrasonic checks, and routine measurements.

Report detected defects to the Senior Technician for decision-making.

Assist in checking calibration status of inspection equipment.

Operate automated billet inspection systems and report defects prior to downstream processing

Metal Quality & Analysis

Collect and prepare samples for metallography, hydrogen measurement, and metal cleanliness testing.

Conduct macro/microstructure preparation and support metallographic analysis.

Maintain equipment in good working condition, reporting abnormalities for corrective action.

Continuous Improvement & Support

Participate in optimization projects, trials, and suggestion schemes

AUTHORITY/ DECISION MAKING:

          Accept or reject scrap, finished products based on test and inspection results.

          Quarantine non-conforming material and escalate issues to the management.

          Conduct tests, inspections, and measurements as assigned.

          Escalate deviations or abnormal results to management.

QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS:

Minimum Qualifications:

          Technical Diploma in Metallurgy, Materials Science, Chemistry, or equivalent.

          2–3 years’ experience in aluminium casthouse operations, laboratory, or metallurgy roles.

          Exposure to both casting operations and laboratory analysis (spectrometry, metallography).

Skills:

          Basic knowledge of casting processes, inspection, and metallurgical evaluations.

          Proficiency in laboratory equipment operation (spectrometer, XRF, metallography equipment).

          Ability to follow procedures accurately and maintain precise records.

          Technical reporting, analytical skills, and problem-solving ability.

          Strong teamwork and communication skills.

          Computer literacy (MS Office, data entry, SPC tools)
