Strategic Contribution
- Directs the implementation of the department strategy ensuring alignment to functional strategy, EGA’s vision, mission, and corporate objectives.
- Ensures that departmental strategy and related strategic plans are developed and implemented, which are aligned with the vision and mission of the organization.
- Ensures the provision of subject matter expertise for the assigned domain and provide counsel to EGA leadership on all related areas to facilitate the achievement of EGA’s strategy and functional strategies.
Leadership
- Manages the effective achievement of department objectives through effective leadership and by setting of individual objectives, managing performance, developing, and motivating team to maximize performance.
- Leads the talent development initiatives for the assigned department, collaborating with discipline experts and thereby ensure the availability of talent to fit business requirements.
- Acts as a role model and drive adherence to organizational values and ethics by employees of the assigned department to ensure the establishment of a value driven culture within the organization.
Budgeting and Financial Performance
- Recommends the department budget and monitors financial performance versus the budget so that the business is aware of anticipated costs/revenues, areas of unsatisfactory performance are identified, and potential areas of cost reduction or performance improvement opportunities are capitalized upon.
- Co-defines CAPEX budgets with technology engineering and technology transfers teams and explores ways to minimize CAPEX while maintaining quality and safety.
- Drives the techno-commercial study of cell lining developments so potential performance improvement opportunities are capitalized upon.
- Leads and guides the development of CAPEX efficient engineering solutions for the implementation of technology, to meet client expectations.
- Maintains CAPEX evaluation of key elements of the cathode casting and pot lining area.
Policies, Processes & Procedures
- Directs and oversees the implementation of functional specifications, policies, systems, processes, procedures, and controls covering all lining development functions so that all relevant procedural / legislative requirements are fulfilled while delivering a quality, cost-effective service in a consistent manner.
Safety, Quality & Environment
- Oversees compliance to all relevant safety, quality and environmental management policies, procedures, and controls across the section to guarantee employee safety, legislative compliance, and a responsible environmental attitude.
Planning and Design Management
- Guides the planning and management of the budget allocated to the preparation of technology package and oversees the engineering offices involvement in the development of the engineering documentation.
- Ensures that design criteria, material selection and equipment recommendations are properly documented in the technical reports and design calculation sheets. Verifies compliance to cathode casting and pot lining design criteria and best industry practices.
- Manages effective communications and planning with the reduction development, anode development, mathematical modelling, technology engineering and smelter operation teams on daily and / or ad hoc basis to discuss and share information.
Operational Management
- Plans, leads, and guides the efforts to contribute towards innovating attractive and advanced reduction technologies for EGA and its customers from a reduction cell lining perspective by:
- Controlling, executing, validating, and jointly optimizing development technology projects
- Providing technical expertise for technology transfers (on site and remote, as and when requested)
- Enhancing internal plant processes
- Enriching the industry with technical publications and patents
- Manages all aspects of the preparation of industrial technology packages for the cathode casting and pot lining areas in relation with technology licensing business by:
- Guiding the development of cathode casting and pot lining area technology package compliant with best industry Practices for CAPEX efficient industrial implementation of the company's proprietary technology.
- Guiding the preparation of technology packages within the budget and the timeframe allocated to the external projects managed by technology transfer group.
- Advising the adaptation of technology packages to the specific client needs.
- Provides expertise cell lining technical advice to Technology Transfer to aid in negotiations and management of the Technology License and Technical Services Agreements with Clients.
- Ensures that cathode casting and pot lining area technology packages are developed in accordance with design criteria and meet client needs.
- Acts as a technical expert in the assigned areas for internal and external parties and ensures that technology technical queries are properly answered.
- Improves drawing and specifications following the lessons learnt review at the end of project execution.
- Manages the conducting of benchmarking of cathode casting and pot lining area technology packages against best industry practices.
- Provides subject matter expertise and guides cathode casting and pot lining new developments.
- Plans, leads, and guides the management and monitoring of the latest technology prototype cells development as well as all technology related trials conducted in various cells in the potlines at both EGA sites.
- Leads and guides the operations of lining consultants (work order, design review meeting, invoicing)
- Ensure the provision of technical expertise and support to the Technology Transfer Contract Manager during the execution of technology licensing by:
- Providing subject matter expertise in client design review, equipment and material selection, manufacturing and construction inspection and audits.
- Approving requests for concession and / or deviation to technology documentation in relation with cathode casting and pot lining areas.
- Leading and ensuring adequate documentation of cathode casting and pot lining area design criteria used for the development of technology package.
- Promoting project lessons learn review to improve technology package documentation over time.
- May act for the line manager taking some of his responsibilities on occasions of the absence of the manager.
- Ensures maintenance of regular contacts with technology transfer and technology engineering to assist them in answering technical queries from clients.
- Leads and guides the Technology Transfer when dealing with external technology clients by preparing and delivering technology updates, cell lining operations & process procedures, design improvements, training etc. to achieve excellence and quality standards.
Stakeholder Management
- Enhances effective coordination and communication with all internal and external entities (such as the company’s internal business units, vendors, suppliers, contractors, service providers, etc.) with highest standards of business ethics, to ensure the services required by the organization are delivered in the most effective manner.
- Guides and ensures effective collaboration with all parties involved in the preparation of an industrial technology package for cathode casting and pot lining areas.
- Leads and guides effective communications with technology development's R&D during the development of new technologies to review their future industrialization.
- Leads the effective collaboration with engineering offices, strategic equipment manufacturers and material provider promoting alternative options and competitive environment amongst various providers.
Change Management
- Leads the management of change through continuous improvement of operational systems, processes and practices considering global standards and changes in the business environment which demand proactive action plans.
- Leads the effective knowledge sharing to be updated with latest technological advances and conduct periodically benchmarking of EGA technologies with other smelter technologies.
Reporting
- Ensures that all functional reports are prepared timely and accurately and meet EGA requirements, policies, and quality standards.

- Nurture the culture of innovation and creativity and encourage participation in business excellence programmes
- Promote a positive work environment where employee contributions are encouraged and recognized, and growth is encouraged while integrity is developed and protected.
- Conduct periodic performance appraisals of supervisory staff and recommend status and promotions as per company policy.
