Supervisor - Potlines
1. JOB PURPOSE
To lead a team of shift employees in the assigned Pot Room to ensure that all scheduled activities are completed in a timely and safe manner, in order to achieve predetermined targets for producing molten aluminium in accordance with required quantity and purity levels.
2. KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES

Ensures that all scheduled and unscheduled tasks are completed within the allotted shift working hours.

Ensures all pots in the Potroom operate efficiently by continuously monitoring key operating parameters such as current efficiency, line amperage, metal purity, and bath temperature to achieve production targets within budget limits.

Uses PCU/DCCU/PLC systems, metal/bath measuring rods, volt meters, metal tapping ticket printers, and other Potroom-related tools and equipment competently.

Proficiently uses iRPMS and iPOTS systems to take appropriate actions that improve productivity and process efficiency.

Ensures compliance with EHS procedures and policies to minimize workplace accidents, injuries, health hazards, emissions, and related costs.

Ensures all Potroom equipment is maintained in safe and good operating condition and reports breakdowns immediately to Maintenance for prompt corrective action.

Encourages team participation in continuous improvement initiatives such as the Suggestion Scheme to achieve safer, more efficient, and profitable operations.

Identifies unsafe acts and conditions, takes corrective actions to eliminate or control hazards, and aims to achieve zero Lost Time Injuries (LTI).

Ensures all personnel are aware of and comply with the integrated Quality Assurance System in accordance with ISO 9002.

Ensures molten metal is produced, tapped into crucibles, and positioned for transportation to Casting Operations in a timely manner during the assigned shift.

Monitors changes in other production areas that act as customers or suppliers and adjusts work schedules as required to accommodate delays or operational challenges.

Ensures staff development and training to enhance operational skills, conducts EHS meetings, and promotes a safe, healthy, and environmentally friendly workplace.

Supports the company’s Emiratization plan by ensuring career development and training of UAE national employees in line with set targets.

Coordinates with other departments and communicates relevant issues to ensure smooth and efficient process operations.

Conducts risk assessments, toolbox talks, safety meetings, procedure audits, safety walkabouts, and incident investigations to ensure a safe working environment.

Sustains 3S and 5S standards to ensure good housekeeping and time efficiency within the department.

Completes performance management documentation within stipulated timelines for self and subordinates.
3. AUTHORITY / DECISION MAKING
Internal Authority
-
Conducts daily toolbox talks and communicates with Superintendent Potrooms and incoming/outgoing supervisors regarding operating conditions and pot abnormalities.

Attends Superintendent meetings and shift group safety meetings as scheduled.

Plans and approves team absences, maintains employee timesheets and overtime entries, and initiates disciplinary actions where SOPs are not followed.

Raises warehouse requests within the authorized level.

Acts as the authorized person within Potrooms to issue Permit-to-Work for maintenance and contractor activities.
-
Coordinates with interfacing departments regarding material supply, pot changes, EHS matters, maintenance issues, and process-related concerns.

Works closely with Process Engineers and Technicians regarding pot parameters and measurement results.
Decision Making
-
Uses experience, skills, and documented procedures to manage emergency operational abnormalities in pot operations.

Consults the Superintendent during power reduction or outages and takes appropriate actions to minimize production loss and performance impact.

Has the authority to initiate line power outages in cases of immediate risk to plant safety or personnel.
4. QUALIFICATIONS & SKILLS
Minimum Qualifications
-
Science Graduate or a 3-year Technical Diploma.
Minimum Experience
-
7 years of experience in the Aluminium industry, or
-
5 years of experience in a supervisory role, preferably within the Aluminium industry.
Skills
-
Strong knowledge of Pot operation and computer-controlled systems.
-
Effective supervisory and interpersonal skills.
-
Good knowledge of Potroom tools, equipment, and their operation.
-
Comprehensive understanding of Potroom processes and operations.
-
Strong mathematical competency.
-
Proficiency in English, with the ability to prepare production and shift reports.

Familiarity with Quality Management Systems and Occupational Health & Safety Management Systems.

Ability to read and interpret technical drawings.
-
Proficiency in standard computer applications such as MS Office.
